To be successful in life requires more than hard work even though it is essential. There are other fundamental tenets that must be in place. When you do not get all the tenets, your chances of success become slim or at best, you will keep on going round the circles. In this article, Steve Harvey gives his Top 10 Rules for Success.
In case you do not know who Steve Harvey is. He is an American award winning comedian, radio personality, actor, producer and writer. He has at least two books to his credit which include Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find and Keep a Man and Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man published in March 2009. He is also the host of The Steve Harvey Morning Show, the Steve Harvey talk show, Family Feud and Little Big Shots.
He gives his top 10 rules for success as follows:
- Find your gift.
Shortly after high school, he attended Kent State University and West Virginia University.
- Embrace failure.
He has been a boxer, an autoworker, an insurance salesman, a carpet cleaner and a mailman.
- Push through the dirt.
He first performed stand-up comedy in 1985 at the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland, Ohio.
4. Multiply your effort.
In the late 1980s, he was homeless for multiple years.
- Surround yourself with like-minded people.
He slept in his 1976 Ford when not performing gigs that provided a hotel, and he showered at gas stations.
- Manage your strengths.
He was a finalist in the Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search.
- Balance between flexibility and focus.
His success as a stand-up comedian led to a starring role on the ABC show Me and the Boys in 1994.
He would later star on the WB network show, The Steve Harvey Show, which ran from 1996 to 2002.
- Dream big.
In 2012, he performed his final stand-up act in Las Vegas, ending a 27-year career as a stand-up comedian.
- Show emotion.
