When you break record in your country, it calls for celebration. It is entirely a different ball game altogether, when you consistently break records in a foreign land, which is the case of 17-year old Nigerian, Esther Ruby Daniel.
Indeed Nigerians, at home and in diaspora, were in a celebratory mood and grilled with pride and lavishly pouring encomiums on the 17-year old Nigerian girl, when the news hit the newsstand about her achievement in faraway India.
The 200-level Law student at the Amity University, Haryana, India, achieved international fame after she clung the envious position of number one athlete at the university by winning laurels in different sporting events.
According to reports, she won Silver medal at the All Indian Law Student University Game, Gold medal in 200 meters on October 5, 2016, Silver medal in long jump on October 6, 2016, and Gold medal in 100 meters on October 14, 2016. More so, she came tops in her final game on October 18, 2016, winning the Golden Cup, and finally winning Bronze medal for the University on October 21, 2016, in 100 meters during All Universities Games Competition.
Surprisingly, Esther is also a talented singer. Sometime in February this year, she won Gold medal in singing competition.
The multi-talented student’s father, Rev. Daniel Thomas, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, the Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, said, “Esther Ruby Daniel is now a pride to Amity University, pride to Nigeria and a Pride to Africa”.
