The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on Monday July 11, 2016, said that agriculture is fundamental for Nigeria’s sustainable economic growth and development.
The statement was made at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while holding a meeting with a group Nigerian and Mexican agro-business interest.
The meeting which had in attendance the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Heineken Lokpobiri, who led a Mexican agro-business concern, the San Carlos Group and other Nigerian partner, Wells Farm, from Edo State, to Aso Rock. In attendance also was Mr. Segun Awolowo (Jnr), the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
Mr. Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity of the Vice President, in a statement released said, ” President Buhari has said it repeatedly that agriculture and solid minerals, especially agriculture is our economic way out. This is the President’s vision, and our job-the rest of us-is to look for ways to get that dream actualized.”
He said President Mohammadu Buhari is ready to support in every necessary way agricultural plans.
He further assured that the APC-led federal government will provide conducive customs and immigration policies including tariffs in order to attain the vision.
Professor Osinbajo said the reason being the set up of the Presidential Council on the East of Doing Business by the President is to attract both local and foreign investors.
“There is no doubt in which direction we should go. Agriculture is in the forefront and we do realise the urgency of the moment and the importance of getting things done quickly,” he added.
