The new Edo University at Iyamho in Estako West local government area of the state has taken off with 500 students.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Gideon Obhakhan, disclosed this when he appeared before members of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The lawmakers had on April 20 summoned the Commissioners for Finance, Education, Environment, Public Utility, and Housing and Urban Development to appear before them to explain financial involvement of their ministries in the establishment of the university.
“The Commissioner for Finance is in a better position to furnish the house with all the financial details. Three faculties, the faculty of Science, Arts and Pharmacy have been accredited,” Obakhan said.
The state’s Commissioner for Finance, Mr. John Inegbedion said he could not give a breakdown of expenditures on the university because he is on vacation.
He said, “I want to inform the house that I have been away on a 10-day vacation. I just resumed official duty on Monday, and do not have access to my office to get the information required.”
