Former England international, Trevor Sinclair has stated that England might rue the thought of allowing Arsenal youngster, Alex Iwobi, to pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Iwobi featured in his first official game for Nigeria in their 1-1 draw against Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kaduna. He also played in the reverse fixture in Alexandria which Egypt won 1-0.
Iwobi scored his second English Premier League goal on 2nd April’s 4-0 win against Watford.
Prior to the international break, the 19-year-old netted his first league goal in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Everton.
Reacting to Iwobi’s man-of-the-match showing against Watford on Saturday, Sinclair pointed out that if the Arsenal youth team product has half the talent his uncle Austin Okocha had, it will be a huge mistake on the part of England.
“Iwobi, the one that got away, #Eng. If he is half as good as Jay Jay (Okocha) it will be very very costly,” Sinclair wrote on his Twitter handle on Saturday.
