About Me

My name is James Oluwaseyi Mary a.k.a MOJ. I am from Oyo state, Ibadan to be precise, where I was born and had my early life. I am from a family of 5 and I occupy the forth position.

What I Do

I am a singer, a song writer and instrumentalist.

My Music Genre

I sing Afro pop and R&B

Why I Make Music

I find it easy to express some feelings, thoughts, and emotions in lyrics. When I’m down, music raises my spirit…I’m so in love with it,  besides it fun and entertaining.

Early Life and Career

I attended Omoniyi Nursary and Primary Sch (now Jacob’s Memorial) and Baptist Secondary School Oke- Adobe, Ibadan. Currently, I’m a law student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.I am from a monogamous Christian home with five children and I am the forth child.

Taking about music, I grew up loving music very much and was naturally endowed with skills to play a few percussion instruments.  Thus, I have always found every good means to be a member of musical groups I come in contact with, both within and outside churches.

I began to write songs when I was much less than 15 years, though it  was all like a child’s play to me then.

But I’d share my write ups with my family and friends, and they’d make good comments.

My music endeavor took a new turn and kickstarted in 2012, when I participated in a singing and song writing competition and emerged the winner among the female contestants. As a result, I had a free studio recording, where I recorded my first track titled OLOLUFE. I then had to wait for another five years, so as to pursue my academic goals, because I also place much premium on education, before I did my second track LET THEM KNOW in 2017.

I received encouraging remarks from the my fans and friends within and outside Nigeria and so I went ahead for yet another track  OLEKU which was released later in the same year.

I’m aspiring to bring more excellent and award winning works to my fans, and  earn myself a good position in the Nigerian music industry among the topnotch musicians of our time.

About My Musical Inspiration

I get inspired by several things- prevailing circumstances, feelings, words, sounds, images… however, music is my most source of inspiration.  I am into music, not only as a singer but also an instrumentalist, so I listen to many songs that I find appealing, whatever the genre, to enjoy, assess and improve. I love a number of Nigerian and foreign artists,  from whose music I sometimes get inspired. I so love anything musical- be it sound- it elevates my spirit.
